Composite Arts and Science located in the Northern Utah Mountains, is a small Bicycle Company which started in 1994. We design and manufacture unique composite bicycle frames, which are non-traditional, futuristic designs. CAS is the only company in the world with a patent (US Patent # 5,215,322, 1993) on a tandem. This patent covers both the single (ZR) and the tandem (ZXT) bicycle frame design and method of manufacture. In fact, our patent issued well before the Super Bikes of the 1996 Olympics and the Trek carbon fiber "Y" bikes. The CAS bicycles are very calculated and thought out. The company founded by Mark Enders is a creative extension for him in the form of bicycles. Mark, a former Cat. 2 racer from Boulder, Colorado with degrees in studio art and mechanical engineer has over 20 years of engineering experience in sporting goods, aerospace and automotive. We have applied our experience to take carbon fiber bicycles designs to a high performance art form.

The ZR and the ZXT are the simplest forms of a bicycle, which makes them very efficient in a number of ways: aerodynamically, laterally stiff and optimal for composite design. The frames are as simple as it gets; a place for the front and rear wheels, a place for the seat, a place for the pedals and a place for the handle bars. Add another person; and you add another place for the seat, pedals and handlebars; that's all. The minimalist approach results in a frame design with fewer sections, which inherently achieves excellent aerodynamics. To efficiently deviate from the traditional triangular frame designs, you need a material, which is very versatile to work with, extremely lightweight, strong and stiff. The best material for the minimal frame design is the composite, or carbon fiber and an epoxy matrix.

The majority of carbon fiber frames today are bladder molded frames and are limited to expensive tools. As a result, these companies can only offer customers small, medium and large frames. The general population isn't made up of only three sizes. We took a different approach to producing frames to fit the entire population. Our approach to manufacturing a custom carbon fiber frame is similar to that of the traditional custom frame builder. We piece sections of the frame together to fit your desired geometry, then over wrap the entire frame with carbon. The resulting frame is all carbon fiber and hollow (no foam core). Our unique patented method of manufacturing the frame allows us to produce custom sizes economically. You won't find another company capable of producing a custom carbon fiber "beam bike" like ours; we have a US patent on the design.
